The story about Hendrik Prent I found,

They leave on December 8, 1941 and are captured on December 20, 1941.

Hendrik Prent was an Engineer/Stoker/Seaman on board the Dutch Submarine O20 “Holiday”.

The O20 was under command by the CinCEF, British Operational Command (Eastern Fleet).

The assignment was to sail to the Naval Base in Singapore (A.M.), where approximately 40 tons of fuel will be loaded and some necessary repairs will be carried out.

Due to the many attacks by Sea and Air Force, the submarine is heavily damaged and no longer able to defend itself if attacked by the enemy.

For this purpose, given the condition of the boat and apparently no longer seeing any possibility of escaping persecution under or above water, the commander gives the order to the head of the engine room in the power station to bring all hands on deck and prepare the boat for to sink.

While the crew is in the water, the diesels are running at full power and the Submarine disappears into the depths, and finally the Head Chief of the Engine Room emerges through the tower hatch, unaware of the 6 crew members still on board.

The crew is picked up by the Japanese Destroyer Uranami and sails to a Naval base at Khota Bahru, Formosa (Taiwan) and from there to Cape St. Jacques in Vietnam.

The next day we sail with the ocean liner Otara Maru to the Naval Base on the grounds of the Texas Oil Company.

This is the last account I find of Hendrik Prent until I come across his name as a passenger list  from a Bomber Group that was shot down near the Bay of Biscay.

And after this, outside his residence in Amsterdam, I found nothing in my research about him on the Internet.
