The Hell Ships Argentina Maru left Omiya Jima, Guam on 01/10/1942 for Japan.

It arrived 4 days later in Tadotsu, Japan with about 800 POW.

She took part in various Battles as Cargo Ship and was clear of any Damage.

In Dec. 1942 she is sold an rebuild to a IJN Carrier renamed KAIYO (Sea Hawk) and directly assigned to the Combat Fleet.

Nagato Maru

The Nagato Maru was a Hell Ships that was first damaged and later sunk on Sep. 2, 1943. The Nagato Maru, sailed from Manila for Japan on Nov. 7, 1942 the boarded about 1,600 American prisoners-of-war (POWs), many survivors of the “Bataan Death March.” About 550 POWs are crammed into each of NAGATO MARU’s three holds. On Nov. 1942 they arrive at Moji. 3 more POWs die en route. Disembarks POWs for an Osaka POW camp.

USS Canopus AS-9

The submarine tender USS Canopus (AS-9) received severe damage when hit by heavy bombers on December 29, 1941. She lost six of her crew in the attack, with another six wounded. She was later scuttled off Manila Bay rather than face capture by the enemy.  Her crew was used in the defense of Bataan and Corregidor.  A large number of her crew died in the Philippine Islands, during transport to POW camps in Japan, or in the camps themselves
