There was a little mixed-up about his Origen, but was a U-boat 511 witch was transferred to Japan on 16 September 1943 and served in the Imperial Japanese Navy as Submarine Ro-500 until August 1945 when she surrendered to the Allies.

Mike enlisted  the Army at Ohio, with service number # 2851416.

 

Mike E. Vadas was a Seaman First Class/Guard on the U.S.S. General Stuart Heintzelman (AP-159).

 

Mike was KIA when the SS Heintzelman was torpedoed by the German U Boat-511 in the India Sea on July 9, 1943, on July 9, 1943, and he is honored with the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Mike is buried at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Metro Manila,

National Capital Region, Philippines.
