Heywood was KIA/MIA, the destroyer was sunk by a torpedo attack from German submarine U-552 near Iceland on 31 October 1941, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Good Combat Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal.

 

Heywood is buried/mentioned at Cambridge American Cemetery

Ulich, Elmer Edward

Elmer E. Uhlich was in the RAF transport command and the crash occurred before the US entered WWII.  The plane was a Liberator (AL562) and it crashed in Wigtown Bay, Scotland.

 

Elmer was born approx. in 1915 in Michigan.

Mother, Fannie Uhlich.

Sisters, Vera and Bernice Uhlich.

Brothers, Walter, Alfred, Gus, Clarence, Lawrence, Lester, Wilbert, Allen, Robert and Leroy Uhlrich.

Elmer entered  the service from Michigan with service number # no record.

Elmer E. Ulich was a First Officer in the Royal Air Force.

Elmer died when the engine of his plane caught fire and crashed in Scotland, on Nov 23, 1941.

Elmer is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton,

South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England.
