Harold was KIA when it was hit by a Torpedo, tried to get repairs in the port and was hit again by a Torpedo from the Japanese I-26 on Nov. 13, 1942, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.

 

Harold is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Manila, metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
