John was KIA when the Ship got Torpedoed and Sunk during the Battle at Guadalcanal on Nov. 13, 1942, Fireman Third Class John M. Acheson is honored with a  Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

 

John is buried/mentioned at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial  Manila, Metro Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.
